| Max J. Harnish Boxing Scholarship This Scholarship Award is presented in memory of Max Harnish, who for 53 years was a very prominent figure in local boxing circles as a boxer, trainer and referee. In addition to his life long participation in amateur boxing, Max was also a very well known and widely respected professional boxing official. He officiated as Chief Referee for such boxing legends as Muhammed Ali, Hilmer Kenty, Michael McCallum, Buster Mathis Sr., and a host of other champions. Max has been honored as an inductee into the Michigan Boxing Hall of Fame, and Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame. The scholarship is awarded annually on behalf of the family and friends of Max in the amount of $500.00 to one boxer each year. |
